Do you remember the Filipino ad catchphrase “Para kanino ka bumabangon?” What if, one day, you will have to face the reality of quitting or ending something you love and are passionate

about? This is one of the essential lessons I learned during my CAP. The lesson is that, ultimately, everything comes to an end. However, this comes with thoughts of hope because it inspires me that once I become a police officer, I will try my very best to retire with the pride and honor of the maroon blood.

Today, I witnessed the program of PRO5 entitled, “KASUROG, Orgulyo Mi An Serbisyo Mo,” a project duly approved by the Regional Director on May 19, 2022, which aims to institutionalize the delivery of service under the PNP Memorandum Circular No. 2017-059 entitled: Salamat Kapatid Program in Honor of Retiring PNP Personnel.

This was conducted at the residence of the retiring PNP Personnel who waived the Salamat Kapatid Program on or before their retirement date through their last unit assignment to show heartfelt gratitude for their service rendered to the organization and our country.

Retirement should not be seen as closing doors but rather as opening new and unexplored passages. This is a path that everyone will take, and in our case, if we are lucky enough to survive. Some have already shared their lives with the country before retirement, and some have chosen a path one shouldn’t. We should view retirement as a moment of reminiscing about our youth and spending more time with the family. This should be shown in a light that, as Police Officers, we have dedicated our lives to the country and its people. The occasions we missed over a killing incident, the anniversary we cannot attend over a breakout incident. All the lost time we will never get back.

"Pag maayos ka magtrabaho tapos malaki ang respeto mo sa tao mo at sa supervisor mo tatagal ka sa serbisyo”

-PEMS Rommel Dineros

However, the memories built and strengthened by years of happiness, sadness, anger, anxiety, and exasperation as a police officer will not end at retirement. In our path, retirement is just the ending of the required service, but in our hearts, a police officer will always be a police officer.

Today’s Wrap-Up:

As future part of the force, we should never forget that it is not in the years we are recognized. It will always be about how we treat our superiors and subordinates. People will always remember why and how we have built our network over the years.
